Building Community through basslines

The one thing I have learned over the last few years, is to build community you have to be of service. So, I have decided to offer bass lines of jazz tunes via youtube. No bass solos, just a solid foundation for practicing musicians to play the melody and take a few choruses of solo and then melody out. I think this will be a great tool for singing musicians as well.

Here's an Example:

I have posted a couple of other videos on www.youtube.com as well. Just go to the Jim Donica channel and you will find the videos. My hope is that people will truly use them for their musical growth and I will take requests within reason, and do my best to offer solid foundational bass lines for practice. Please subscribe to the channel and share with friends who might enjoy working with them. I want to reach as many people as possible. I know they are out there. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

Finally, a place for my musings...

Happy New Year to all the cool people who have come out to support and enjoy the music and to all the great  musicians whom I've had the privilege of making music with over the last year.

2018 was a great year for growth and collaboration.  I am especially grateful for Maureen's Jazz Cellar and to David Budway and Brianne Higgins. Playing weekly at the Cellar has been grounding and it's given me the opportunity to strengthen my focus. I love the people who come there to perform. When I started showing up for open mic night I decided it would be a place where I would say yes to everyone and use my talents to the best of my ability to support others in their musical vision.
In doing so I am getting clearer in my own musical vision.

I look forward to 2019 being even better as my musical relationships deepen and grow. Stay tuned to more about what's brewing next!

With gratitude,
Jim
