I miss my music community a great deal and look forward to the world coming back to us all. Anyone interested in studying with me please contact me through the website www.jimdonica.com or email me at [email protected].
I'm Happy to say I survived 2020 with just a few bumps and bruises. Though there were not many gigs , I was able to put my attention on practicing and teaching via zoom. I have so valued my students this year. They have really helped me to dig deep into the music and I have enjoyed getting to know them as people. It is my hope to keep developing this side of my life as I have found it very rewarding. It is hard to know exactly where the music will take us but it is my intention to bring my A game to whatever opportunities that come my way. I've been working on having a deeper connection to the jazz repertoire . I learn lyrics, check out various recordings in different keys, try to internalize the melody with understanding and care for great phrasing. We'll see if this work brings great fruit. I hope it does.

Hi Jim, I would love to study with you online if the opportunity should present itself - Heather, too, for that matter. Like so many of us, I am just trying to keep my head above water. I am still teaching full-time in a public Adult Ed. Centre, but I am also the union rep and besides the fact that we are trying to convince the powers that be that all adult classes in Montreal (a hotspot) should be 100% online, we are also trying to negotiate a new contract as ours expired last March. I have had COVID three times in my class, but because everyone is respecting the protocols, each time it was limited to an individual student with no outbreak. Are you still working with tap students online? I hope all is well with you and your family. - Mark

I’ve been proud to be a Jim Donica student. I’m 64 and have been playing piano all my life. I’m a full-time public school music teacher. Taking up a new instrument with dedication and passion has helped me immeasurably as a teacher. My bass lessons with Jim have been a weekly delight as I get to understand more and more how to relate to this very physical instrument and its role in the music I’ve given most of my musical life to. If you get to work with Jim, you are in for a deeply rewarding series of events. He’s got an abundance of experience, mad skill, fresh outlooks, and his eyes and ears are wide open.
